Orenda Welcomes Greta Nelson, Land Steward!

We are delighted to welcome our new Land Steward, Greta Nelson…

Greta Nelson grew up in West Barnstable and spent much of her younger life walking, running, paddling and sailing the woods and waters of Cape Cod. After some years of traveling and finishing her degree in Environmental Studies at Vassar College, Greta returned to the Cape and got reengaged with the local food and environmental community. She spent a number of years farming oysters for Beach Point Oysters in Barnstable Harbor and provided administrative support and taught classes for Resilient Roots, a local permaculture design and education non-profit. She was formally introduced to the land conservation community on the Cape through the Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, where she worked on their conservation restriction monitoring and continues to work part time. She is excited to bring her non-profit, land use and gardening experience to Orenda and is looking forward to helping protect the land and creatures that raised her. In her role, Greta will be coordinating the monitoring and management of Orenda’s wildlife sanctuaries.
