Dear Friends of Orenda Wildlife Land Trust,

We are in a time of great change. Our lives have been affected dramatically by this global pandemic. The changes have been difficult for all of us, and devastating to many. Our economies, health and peace of mind are threatened. We need each other now more than ever to stay strong and positive. So please allow me to focus on the positive for a moment, seeking the silver lining that shines from beneath the clouds.

On this 50th anniversary of Earth Day, we are celebrating life! The plants and animals are beginning to reemerge from their winter slumber. Birds flit about, singing their uniquely beautiful songs. The herring are beginning to run on their annual journey home. Critters of every kind are scurrying about, planting seeds for the coming season of growth and giving birth to new life. And the Earth in her magnificent splendor keeps on spinning, sustaining all of us with her life-giving soil, sun, air and waters.

In only a few short months, the slowing of human civilization has resulted in a resurgence of the earth’s health. The impacts of human development have become even more apparent in their absence, as satellite imagery reveals a cleaner, greener planet. There is a stronger, deeper realization of the importance of health, family, friends, home, connection, work, community and nature. Sometimes it takes a crisis to show us what we would not otherwise see, enabling positive change and the strengthening of our resolve to live wisely.

And so, on this 50th Earth Day, we celebrate our world with more clarity about her sacredness, strength and our interdependence with all life. The earth and her inhabitants, including people, plants and wildlife, depend on each other for our continued health and well-being. Orenda remains committed to taking care of this world and her creatures by protecting land for conservation….for all of us. We welcome and thank you for your continued support of this mission, through donations and volunteer help. Together, we will not only survive…..we will thrive!

Sincerely,

Jeff Thibodeau
