AmeriCorps Cape Cod Lends a Hand at the Turtle Garden Sanctuary
Last Friday, we had the pleasure of welcoming an incredible team from AmeriCorps Cape Cod to our Turtle Garden sanctuary in West Barnstable – and their impact was immediate and meaningful.
Brendan, Nina, Evie, and Emma joined us for an afternoon of hands-on conservation work, bringing enthusiasm, teamwork, and a clear commitment to protecting local ecosystems. Together, we made significant progress preparing the habitat for the season ahead.
Their efforts focused on maintaining and expanding key nesting areas, an essential step in supporting the success of Diamondback Terrapins. The team also worked to clear root-sprouting oaks and reduce dense ground and canopy cover – important tasks that help create optimal nesting conditions and improve overall habitat health.
This kind of collaborative stewardship is at the heart of what makes conservation work effective. It’s not just about the land – it’s about the people who show up, lend their time and energy, and contribute to something larger than themselves.
We’re deeply grateful to the AmeriCorps Cape Cod crew for their dedication and spirit. Thank you for being part of this important work and for helping us continue to protect and restore vital habitats for terrapins and other wildlife.
