As the year draws to a close, we invite you to join us as we reflect on the incredible community that helps make Cape Cod a haven for wildlife. One of the most inspiring stories this year is that of the Northern Diamondback Terrapin – a threatened turtle species that depends on our work to preserve salt marshes, woodlands and their sandy nesting grounds to survive.

Thanks to supporters like you, Orenda Wildlife Land Trust has protected dozens of terrapin nests, safeguarded hundreds of hatchlings, and preserved vital habitat within Barnstable’s Great Marsh this year. But these efforts are just the beginning – their future remains uncertain. Yet, we remain committed!

That’s why we’ve set a year-end fundraising goal of $10,000 to expand our Terrapin Protection Program and grow our network of Terrapin Guardians – people like you who believe in protecting Cape Cod’s wild places and species.

Please consider becoming a Terrapin Guardian and supporting Orenda Wildlife Land Trust, as we’re reminded that the impact of our collective action is boundless.

Your charitable contribution to our Terrapin Guardians initiative will:

• Strengthen long-term monitoring and research to better understand terrapin behavior and population trends
• Invest in sanctuary improvements that enhance habitat resilience in the face of climate and environmental change
• Protect vital coastal habitat, terrapin nests and hatchlings
• Support interns interested in conservation careers
• Provide supplies for our volunteer Terrapin Protection Team
• Expand educational outreach and programming to community organizations, schools and families
• Create additional opportunities for our Terrapin Guardians to serve and protect terrapins year round
